distortion in voice recording

Post by shinnen » Fri Oct 19, 2007 3:09 pm

Hi,
I've been trying to record my voice, but the recording is very low, and distored, almost like I'm under water. I've been using a headset/microphone combination (Emkay CE, if that means anything). I'm wondering if I need to boost the signal, or maybe get a better microphone. Any help would be appreciated. I'm using Windows ME and a Via PC Audio card.
Thanks,
John

<<<I've been using a headset/microphone combination (Emkay CE>>>

VR-3310 Value Line Headset?

Does the sound card have a microphone input? They used to be pink, but we got a series of sound cards that were a different color and it made everybody nuts. "How come I can't hear my microphone?!?" So you need to go with the label, not the color.

We did have one series of headset that just didn't work very well. It was "Noise Canceling" but it turned out to be Voice Canceling as well.

Can you borrow someone's headset to see if that works? We also took delivery of a series of sound cards that didn't work with anybody's headset. We had to install those in places that didn't need sound.
