Hello!

I would like to use Audacity to trim mp3 file without re-encoding.

I know about the usual way: select, crop and export as mp3. But I don't want to loose the quality of the file and re-encode the part of mp3 again.

Thank you!

I think mp3DirectCut will do what you want: http://mpesch3.de1.cc/mp3dc.html

Thank you, enderbyte! Your solution is great, I will use it.

But is there an open source solution?

As the author states on the home page:

"freeware
no nags · no spyware · no registry usage"

However, it is not open source.

I have never head about freeware to trim mp3 without re-encoding. Seems like all free programs recompress files and loose quality. When I needed to trim audio and save all its quality, I just used a trial of Mp3 Cutter & Joiner. Appreciated its feature of automatic removal of silence. I really recommend this software.

Mp3split will trim without re-compressing.
It's free and open source (GPL) http://mp3splt.sourceforge.net/mp3splt_page/home.php
