Audacity 1.2.6
I have a system with dual boot for Vista and XP. If I boot to XP, Audacity work just fine. The problem is when I'm booting to Vista.
In Preferences I have:
"Audio I/O" tab:
Select "Playback Device" = "Microsoft Sound Mapper-Output"
Select "Recording Device" = "Microsoft Sound Mapper-Input"
Select "Recording Channels" = "2 (stereo)"
Tick the box "Play other tracks while recording new one"
"Software Playthrough" is NOT selected
"Quality" tab:
"Default Sample Rate" = "44100 Hz"
"Default Sample Format" = "16 bit"
The drop down to the right of the Input Volume slide is grayed out so I can't select Stereo Mix.
When I record, the input level is very low. If I play it back, I hear a lot of static and the music is very faint under the static. I have Audacity setup on Vista the same as in XP but it just isn't working in Vista.
Just for fun I tried the beta version and it doesn't work either.
Any suggestions on how I can get Audacity to work in Vista?
Thanks

Re: recording in Vista not working
It's usually a case of getting Vista to work. Personally I would stick to XP for working with audio as it is much superior in this department, but that's evading your question. The secret answers usually lie in the Windows Control Panel.
