how do you use audacity to aply gain ,distortion , etc

hi there,
I would like to use audacity to use my pc as a guitar amp
but the only sound comming is a clean sound and I would like to have it more hard rock etc....

Audacity will not do anything in real time. It's a post production tool.
Record or capture a performance clean and then apply filters to it after lunch to make it sound like you want.

IMO the best way is to use a guitar amp (optionally with fx pedals) and record it with a microphone.
Other methods include using a hardware amp-simulator (such as the Line 6 Pod)
or using VST effects in a suitable VST host program (such as
