NEWBIE: Error messages

Hi,

I started using Audacity only recently, but I cannot put my music into mp3 format.

I always have two error messages:

" ( Would you like to locate lame_enc.dll now? - I answer OK ), then Audacity says
COULD NOT OPEN MP3 LIBRARY! "

and

" COULD NOT FIND LAME_ENC.DLL FILE! "

Could you please tell me what they exactly mean? What do you think is causing all this??

I have been trying more than 30 times I think, but there is still no solution.
All I want to do is just make mp3 formats and upload them on the internet. :|

Thank you in advance.

( Audacity version 1.2.6 for Windows Vista )

The instructions for installing Lame are here: http://audacityteam.org/wiki/index.php? ... structions
It is important that you follow the instructions to the letter.

For a small minority of Audacity 1.2.6 users the problem remains even when following the instructions precisely, in which case it will be necessary to update to Audacity 1.3.7 (Audacity 1.3 is recommended for Vista)

I'm Japanese and a complete novice at all sorts of software. I read the instruction with difficulty, but there was no information whatsoever which could be useful for me. I found an Audacity website translated into Japanese, but there is no help centre page available ( The page just goes blank when I open it. ) Everything is utterly useless. So sick.

1) Download Audacity 1.3.7 from here: http://audacityteam.org/beta/audacity-w ... -1.3.7.exe
2) Download Lame from here: http://lame.buanzo.com.ar/lame_enc.dll
3) Double click on the downloaded "audacity-win-unicode-1.3.7.exe" file and install Audacity 1.3.7
4) Look for the folder "Audacity 1.3 Beta (Unicode)" in your "Program Files" directory and move the downloaded "lame_enc.dll" into it.
5) Run Audacity
6) On the Edit menu select "Preferences" and go to the "Import / Export" tab
7) Click on the "MP3 Library - Locate" button.
8) Audacity will probably locate the Lame dll automatically, but if not you need to navigate to C:Program FilesAudacity 1.3 Beta (Unicode)lame_enc.dll and press "OK"
