Computer sound lost after installing Audacity.

I’ve lost all sound after installing Audacity v. 1.2.6. on a Dell
XPS420, running Vista 6.0 (Build 6001, Service Pack 1).

When I run system diagnostics, all devices and drivers appear
to be working properly, however I can get no sound from any
of my programs, including iTunes.

When I uninstall the program using the Control Panel Programs
and Features utility, the problem remains. However, when I use
System Restore to roll back the system to the time before I installed
Audacity, my sound works properly.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Have you recently attached a USB audio device ?
