Can't find stereo mix setting

I'm having trouble with my audacity software. Where I used to see microphone/stereo mix on the drop down menu I now see microphone/mono out/waveoutmix/cdplayer. As a result I cannot select the USB device under audio IO. I have tried reloading the software. Previously it worked fine.

Any ideas?

<<<Previously it worked fine.>>>

...On the old computer.

Some newer laptop computers do not give you the ability to record Mix Out. Some just hide it.

Windows Control Panel

If none of this works for you on your new computer (or operating system) then Total Recorder (what I use) or other software recording package may be for you.

Wait. What USB device? Mix Out lets you record what you're computer is playing. Most people want that to record internet music. No USB involved.

Thanks

It is the same computer, so I thought it might be the dreaded windows automatic updates causing the problem. I removed all the windows updates and the media player did a rollback in the process. I removed Audacity and re-installed, but I still have the same problem. I cannot record on any of the settings, I get a loud clicking noise if I try.

Any other ideas?

You keep using the fuzzy words.

We need: "I'm trying to capture a Logitech Desktop USB microphone on my Windows Vista Machine." We need equipment descriptions with part numbers and price tags, not concepts.

I'm using a Veho USB turntable.

Perhaps the problem is the drivers? When I tried to update the drivers using the device manager the wizard couldn't find software that was a better match for my hardware.

Sorry if I'm "fuzzy" - not very technically adept
