Audacity recognized the type of file'C:\Users . . . . . wma'

I don't know where I've been but I just found audacity today and I absolutely love it! However, it wont allow me to import music files such as .wma or .mp3. It says, "Audacity recognized the type of file 'C:Users. . . . . . . <name of song>.wma', but was unable to import it.

I'm a total noob at this but I've installed the LAME patch and I'm still not able to import the files. It says:
"Audacity attempted to use FFmpeg libraries to import and audio file, but libraries were not found.
If you want to use the FFmpeg import feature, please go to Preferences-> Import/Export and tell Audacity where to look for the libraries."

I'm not sure if it wants me to show them were the file that I have the music is at or what. It is looking for some kind of .dll file (I have no idea what that is) right after I downloaded the LAME patch it allowed me to import one song and that was it. So I know it can do it I just don't know how to do it.

Any suggestions?

I would probably run, do not walk to Audacity 1.3.7. 1.3 has a lot of those tools built in, or if not, they have easier ways to apply plugins and external tools.

FFMpeg is a separate collection of tools that "knows" what many different music formats are and can manage them. Audacity looks at the file and says, I have no idea what this is, you figure it out." FFmpeg peers at the file and tells Audacity how to deal with it.

You need to download and install FFmpeg -- but I would totally do it in Audacity 1.3.7, not 1.2
