Hello,
I am running Vista and using a RealTek enabled mic on a laptop.
I am trying to use Audacity to record from a tape deck via phono to mic input therefore I am using the mic input on my laptop.
Unfortunately, Audacity does not recognise the microphone in Preferences/Audio I/O/Recording Device. ie nothing is in the drop down and I cannot enable my microphone by:
Control Panel/Sound/Microphone
The Audacity help file says that I should be able to select microphone in this drop down menu but there is nothing there.
Any help would be appreciated.

Audacity 1.2.x is now obsolete. Please use the current Audacity 2.1.x version.
The final version of Audacity for Windows 98/ME is the legacy 2.0.0 version.

Re: Cannot Select Device
RealTek are a bit of a special case - rather than using a standard sound card interface they have their own control panel. Look for an icon near the system clock. You should be able to select the microphone input from there. If you still have a problem and are using Vista, see here: http://audacityteam.org/wiki/index.php? ... ng_devices
By the way, the microphone input is far from ideal for this - it is designed for use with a microphone.
