Audacity 1.2.x is now obsolete. Please use the current Audacity 2.1.x version.

The final version of Audacity for Windows 98/ME is the legacy 2.0.0 version.

Novation Xiosynth Issue

Post by saibot216 » Mon Jun 15, 2009 4:50 am

I've contacted Novation's tech support about this and they haven't been able to give me any help, but I was hoping someone here would be able to help me. I recently installed Ableton Live 6 and I was using that for some time and now when I go to use Audacity to record pure synth stuff no sound comes out. I checked the inputs and outputs and everything is correct as I had used it before, but now when I go to record I don't even get a flat line for the audio frequency. How do I fix this?

Absolutely nothing. The box is empty.

Try upgrading to Audacity 1.3.7 - it has better support for a wider range of sound cards.

You're not the only one to have problems with this particular device: http://audacityteam.org/forum/viewtopic ... 28&t=10482

There is a section on the wiki about sound card issues: http://www.audacityteam.org/wiki/index. ... nd_drivers
(it includes a link for reporting such issues)

Sorry I can't help further.

until you installed Ableton Live ?

It sounds like Ableton may have screwed up the drivers.
As you are probably aware, Audacity can not use ASIO drivers (support for ASIO can not be distributed with Audacity due to licensing restrictions).
Installing Ableton may have replaced the Windows drivers with ASIO drivers. It should not do this - even if ASIO drivers were installed when you installed Ableton Live, the Windows drivers should still be available. Have you tried re-installing the Windows drivers for the device (may be called "WDM" or "MME" drivers)?

This had not been brought to my attention, though I suspected something like this happened.
No I have not tried reinstallation. How do I do this?

The most simple option, if available would be to do a system restore to a time before you installed Ableton Live.

If that is not an option, you can download the USB Audio and MIDI drivers from here http://www.novationmusic.com/support/xio/
I would probably uninstall Ableton first, then test Audacity, then install the USB Audio and Midi drivers, then test, then if Audacity is working, attempt to get Ableton Live to work without breaking Audacity.
