Hey guys, I recently recorded an approximately 17 minute segment for a podcast. I have downloaded the LAME MP3 encoder, and when I go to "Export as MP3 file" it takes around 15-20 minutes. (not sure if that is to be expected or not). Next thing, I go to my gmail account to email it to the podcasters. The file was a whopping 16 megabytes! Which is too large to be emailed through. I am have re encoded, and re installed LAME multiple times...with the same results, Please help!

Let's see...converting in my head...17 minutes...stereo... The original was about 150M, right? That's ten to one compression. That's not bad.

You can change the compression, filesize, and quality in the Audacity Preference panels. Edit > Preferences > Quality (I'm guessing) MP3 bitrate. Very, very good quality MP3 encodes at about 200 or so. The lowest you can push a stereo show is about 64. Below 64, voices start getting bubbly. It's a straight relationship. Bitrate, filesize and quality all go up and down together.

If you have a mono show instead of stereo, you can halve the numbers.
