Problem with converting zip file to WAV

I have recently downloaded an opera from a legal site. It was sent in a zip commpressed file.I transfered it to documents. It is a mono recording.
When I opened in Audacity in sterio one channel was very load white noise and I could hear no music. I cancelled the 2nd track and clicked on mono this did the trick and I transfered to WAV to put it into Media player. However when I played it back it played slow, A bit like an old cassette recording sometimes did. When I play direct from the file it is perfect but I want to transfer to CD so I can listen on the hi-fi. Can anyone tell me what the problem is and if it can be rectified. I have downloaded other operas not sent in a zip file and these are ok. Is it the zip file or something to do with the mono track ?
Ant help would be appreciated.
Thanks
