won't record first 20 sec of audio tape...

Post by mfazekas » Thu Jun 11, 2009 12:37 am

Hello; hope I'm not repeating a question covered elsewhere. I tried looking, but didn't see it. I have new Vista 64 machine, plenty of drive space and defragged often. Audacity seems to work as great as it did on my old XP machine, except for the first twenty seconds of any audio tape I am copying. It acts as if it doesn't "hear" it, even though I can hear it through the speakers. At about 18 - 20 seconds in, it begins to pick up (fades in w/ garbles), and is picking up perfect by 25 seconds. Any ideas?
Tapes are pretty old, mostly 90's audio books I am converting to MP3s. Only happens (so far) on side one. Playing them on a boom box, connected to line in with an audio cable with jacks at each end. Recording from Line In. As I said, works great after the first 25-ish seconds...

Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
