I spent a whole day with an older relative recovering from heart surgery recording sound tracks for DVDs of very old family home movies. The project went successfully for the first two tracks. But when we completed the last track and clicked on "end" or "stop" I received an error message to the effect that a "project file" was not generated. However, I have over 800 .au files in an Audacity temp folder. I can load each of these files into Audacity and hear them fine, but I need them all "stitched" together in a continuous sound track. How can I do this without a "project file"? I sincerely hope someone knows how to do this. It is very important, as I don't think I can redo this recording session. Thanks. PS clicking on multiple .au files opens them in parallel, not sequentually. You may reply directly to [email protected].

We may, but probably won't. We like to keep conversations public so the maximum number of people see them.

You have a crash and you should investigate possible reasons why, like your drives are filling up or you need defragmentation. No production machine should drop below 10% free space.

Also make sure your virus software isn't too old -- or too good. Some virus software will interfere with Audacity's ability to function. If there is any doubt about that, disconnect your machine from the network(s) and turn the virus software off.

Okay, so you won't reply directly. That's cool. As for the rest of your reply: I have a 1T external HD that is brand new. This baby has LOTS of room. That's not the problem, nor is the virus protection.

My question was not why did this happen. My question is: How do I get all those .au files together into one continuous sound track?

Again, I want to say thank you for pointing me to the Crash Recovery Page and the File Recovery program. It worked perfectly for me and reconnected all the orphaned .au files into one usable .wav file. Now I can add sound to the old home movies I converted from 8mm to digital and will burn the finished project to DVD. Thanks again.
