Encoding ISRC codes?

Post by anonyq » Tue Jun 09, 2009 3:59 pm

Am I correct in believing that Audacity cannot encode ISRCs? What do y'all use to encode ISRC's?

Oh well, I'll take that as a "yes" and an "I don't know."

I was hoping that someone had a definitive answer.

As far as I know, ISRCs are not part of any format, they are just identification codes issued by the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI) .

If you want to embed the code in a WAV file, then you need to use BWF format rather than the standard WAV format. I think that dBpoweramp supports BWF.

thanks steve TF,

i know about isrc's ok. I have my codes. I just am trying to figure out how to encode them into CD tracks. Of course I know there's always "pay someone to do it for you" and "buy expensive software that can do it."

There's supposedly a few programs that can encode, including Wavelab. I'm wondering if I have to buy software just for ISRC encoding. All these audio programs to choose from are confusing, when I haven't seen any of them firsthand.

I'm an absolute beginner on Audacity & have just downloaded wavosaur, neither of which can encode isrc's as far as I can tell.

I was not familiar with BWFs or dBpoweramp. I'm not concerned with encoding into WAVs at this point, but will look into these.

You will do that with a suitable CD burning application. I think Nero can put ISRCs onto CDs.
