It has been reported by several users of Windows XP SP3 that the lame_enc.dll from the links on the Audacity website is not recognised by Audacity 1.2.6
If you have this issue, either update Audacity to 1.3.x and follow the instructions here: http://audacityteam.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=16&t=9175
or download the lame encoder from here and place it in the audacity folder: http://www.rarewares.org/files/mp3/lame ... 3.98.2.zip
FOR AUDACITY 1.3.7 AND LATER THE VERSION FROM rarewares WILL NOT WORK.
