can i paste to the track beyond the end of that track?

Post by tomcon » Tue Oct 16, 2007 9:22 am

I have multiple tracks. The first has some sound. Then, where that sound ends on the first track, the next bit of sound starts on the second track. Now, i want to paste sound into the first track again, but at the ppoint where the sound ends on the second track, i.e. at the end of the entire project. In other words, the first track will look like it has a gap in it. Is this possible? Or, do i have to "insert silence" or something like that? When i put the cursor on the first track exactly where i want the paste to occur, and then hit Ctl-V, where the paste goes is at the end of the sound in the first track, NOT where the cursor is. Is there a way to make the paste go where the cursor is??

Thank you.
Tom

Audacity 1.2.6 cannot have 'dead' space on a track.

You have three options:

1) Insert silence as you said. This will greatly increase the amount of data in your project.

2) Use Audacity 1.3.3. That version allows you to have 'dead' space between different clips on one track.

3) Just make a third track.

Thanks much! I'll look forward to 1.3.3. From experience with film editing, it is much easier to be able to leave "dead space" between clips on a track!
