mixer bar - input source

I have looked at answers to others with this type of problem, however none of the suggested things to try have worked.

I have downloaded v 1.2.6 and my OS is XP home. The system has realtek. After installation the input source is greyed out and I am unable to put any source for the input. It is totally blank and the drop down arrow does not work.

I even tried to download and use the beta version, but had little luck with it. (that was one of the suggested corrections).

Any answers to this problem?

This is probably due to the sound card driver (not uncommon with Realtek), however you will probably still be able to use Audacity by selecting the recording source using the Realtek control panel (look near the time/date in the bottom right of your desktop for a loudspeaker icon).

I had alreaady looked at the realtek screen to try to adjust per some of the other suggestions previously read in Q&A's. No luck. I also looked at realtek using control panel and accessing realtek. Nothing there to help ether.

I want to transfer some of my old tapes to CD, and without being able to select the input source I cannot do so.

Any other suggestions? Not being a computer whiz, you might have to get pretty basic with the how to's

The Realtek control panels often have stuff hidden, and every computer with a Realtek sound card seems to have a slightly different layout. The options should be there, but you will need to search for them. If the options are not there then you've got trouble and may need a better sound card (decent USB sound cards start at around $50 US)

Thanks for the responses. I guess I will have to get a different sound card if I continue.

There does not seem to be anyway to get the input source drop down box with everything I have tried. There seems to be no other option.
