Audacity 1.2.x is now obsolete. Please use the current Audacity 2.1.x version.

The final version of Audacity for Windows 98/ME is the legacy 2.0.0 version.

McAfee causing drop outs

Post by drawdlaniger » Mon Jun 01, 2009 8:01 am

Is there any way I can record either from internet music sites or CD's with McAfee security system still active. Too avoid experiencing these drop outs.
They vary according to how long Audacity has been switched on.

Can you set your McAfee so that it "trusts" and therefore ignores files with .aup and .au extensions?

Thanks for that suggestion regarding .au and .aup extensions.
I know how to allow access to various programmes in McAfee. But I am at a loss on how to identify these particular extensions

Sorry I can't help you further - I also run McAfee and hada quick poke around and likewise couldn't see any seetings for this.

But I am lucky in that McAfee on both my PCs does not give this problem recording with Audacity.

You might want to consider looking at a piece of software called TotalRecorder (often recommended by one of the very regular posters on the forum, kozokowski). You could try using TR for the audio capture and then use Audacity for the editing and export.

If you are disconnected from the internet while you are recording, and you are working on a virus free computer, and you are not connecting external drives, USB memory sticks, or inserting disks (completely blank CDs are OK) then it is quite safe to temporarily disable your anti-virus program. At work I use a computer that has no anti-virus programs at all, but it is a standalone PC with no way of inputting data except through the keyboard, mouse and sound card.
