Audacity 1.2.x is now obsolete. Please use the current Audacity 2.1.x version.

The final version of Audacity for Windows 98/ME is the legacy 2.0.0 version.

Not entirely sure...

Alright. Got a few questions.

First off, I have no idea which Aud version I have, but the stable version sounds like what I have? How do I tell the difference.

AAAAAAAAAND alright the real big important question is next.

When I make a recording, and export it to MP3, everything is cool. I can see the actual file I recorded through Audacity's "Open" command or whatever it is.

Thing is, when I go to the actual folder my exported MP3 is supposedly in, as in I open up the Audacity folder up itself, through Windows Explore, I see no MP3s at all. No recordings whatsoever.

I can open these exported MP3s in Audacity, Windows Movie Maker, and WMP just fine. BUT! I want to actually move the files to another folder.

How do I find and see these exported MP3s? They are there, in the many "Open" menus in the programs listed above, but when I open the actual folder these files are supposedly in, I see no files at all.

I even tried opening one of the files with Audacity, right clicking the file in the "Open" menu, and opening the folder the file was in. The Audacity folder came up as it should, but as before, the files were not there.

At my wits end here. I have a nice chunk of audio files in that folder I would like to physically move to a passive harddrive. Any help is appreciated. Also, I am terribly sorry if this is in the wrong forum. I'm completely new here. I know it is no excuse though. Sorry.

Vista is the OS.
This is an Acer Aspire 5570Z model laptop.
Audacity itself runs awesomely. Just...I wanna move the files.

:( Please help.

Are you absolutely sure you are Exporting an MP3 and not just Saving the Project?

The Save function creates/uodate Audacity projects, which are a comple cloud of little files held together by a master file for the project. You description of "seeing" the stuff seeem to sugeest that you are looking at the Audacity Project.

The Export as MP3 and Export Multiple functions are used to consolidate the project files for a project and export an MP3. The export dialog box allows you to choose wher you want the resultant files to be placed. I would suggest not putting them in your Audacity program folder - rather create a separate folder or set of folders for your recordings.

That still doesn't help me see the items I have already recorded. And yes, the files in question are MP3s and not projects of any kind because I tried it out to see if I could make a recording somewhere else and that recording showed up okay and I could see it via Windows Explorer.

So yeah, still need help as to how to see them via W-E.

What is the folder that you have Exported the MP3 into?

Vista may not let you look in some folders, so you need to ensure that you are Exporting to a folder that you have full access to (such as "My Documents" or "My Music").

I have Vista and I've been able to do Export just fine. Vista can be a little tricky though. Make sure you've read about it on the main Audacity webpage, that way you know it's installed correctly.

Also, when you export to MP3, are you getting the menu that asks you where you want save it to? You should also get another menu for the ID tags, etc...
Wore case scenario, uninstall it, restart your computer, then reinstall again. See if it works. Also, I'm assuming you downloaded the Lame Encoder -necessary for creating MP3's?
