Hello,
I am using Audacity 1.3.4 under WinXP with an M-Audio Delta 44. Audacity gives me several options for input device in the preferences, but they none of them give me all four inputs. The most I can get is two. Does anyone have any ideas what else I might need to do?
Only two tracks with Delta 44

Re: Only two tracks with Delta 44
So, I've messed around with it a bit more, and I've got a clearer idea of what's up, but I'm still stuck. There are options for "Input 1/2" and "Input 3/4". Not surprisingly, these each get two of the mics. The default option for input is labeled "MME: Microsoft Sound Mapper: Input", and I would guess that this one combines all four channels. However, when I try to choose that I get an error that says "Error while opening sound device. Please check the input settings and project rate". As far as I can tell the project rate is 44100, and all of these settings work, albeit with only two channels with other input settings.
Hopefully that will make it a little easier for someone to offer suggestions. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Re: Only two tracks with Delta 44
Audacity will capture and manage up to 16 tracks of sound from any one Sound Device. Many multiple channel sound devices present their product to the computer as multiple stereo devices. This is common. Audacity will only manage one stereo device in this case.
It's rough to shop for a multi-channel device because many of them do this trick and lead you to believe you're actually getting one bistream with 16 tracks in it. You actually get 8 stereo streams.
I don't know any way around it.

Re: Only two tracks with Delta 44
Using other software (eg Adobe Audition), it records four distinct tracks just fine, and when I boot the system into a linux-on-cd distro like puredyne, audacity records four distinct tracks there as well.
Re: Only two tracks with Delta 44
The other software may be using ASIO drivers (Audacity can not be distributed with ASIO support due to licensing restrictions).
It may be worth trying Audacity 1.3.7 as it has better support for modern hardware.
