Audacity reading wav file as mp3 ?

Hi all. This is my first post. I looked around a bit, but did not see an answer for my question.

I am mainly using Audacity to import (fairly) large wav files (of live music / transferring lp's and tapes) then chopping them into individual tracks.

In the case of lp's and tapes I normally run the wav through the SoundSoap program before using Audacity.

The last time I tried to use SS (v2.1) I couldn't get it to open, and found that there was an upgrade available. So after installing the update, It worked fine and I processed a file and saved it to a folder.

Now, when I try to open the saved wav file with Audacity, the dialog box says "importing mp3 file".

I have never ran into this problem before. And the people at Bias (SoundSoap) did not have an answer.

I'm hoping that someone here has an answer. Any info would be appreciated.

Thanks for your help,
steve

First, I would talk Windows into showing you file extensions instead of hiding them.

Start > My Computer > Tools > Folder Options > View > Deselect "Hide Extensions" and click "Apply to All Folders."

Still think you have WAV files? On a while guess, I'd say SS is now producing MP4 or M4A files and it's catching Audacity with its pants down.

Tell us how it went.

Thanks for the info.

I re-installed Audacity and all is well.
