How do I listen to my guitar, with headphones, through my PC, as I record it?
As it is now, I can record without an issue, plugging into the mic input. I just can't hear what I'm recording while I'm recording it. I'm using Vista.
Sorry if this has been asked a million times already. I'm a complete Audacity newb.

Audacity 1.2.x is now obsolete. Please use the current Audacity 2.1.x version.
The final version of Audacity for Windows 98/ME is the legacy 2.0.0 version.

Open Preferences, and click on the "Audio I/O" tab. First check the "Hardware Playthrough" box, and try again. If you still can't hear what you're recording, go back, uncheck the Hardware Playthrough box, and check the Software Playthrough box instead. --Allen

Thanks! That worked. Now, I just have to figure out the latency issue.

I believe Audacity 1.3 has much better tools for latency problems.
Audacity 1.3 isn't "Unstable" any more and we wish they would stop calling it that. There are modern computers that will no longer run Audacity 1.2. Development and patches have stopped.
You can have both on your computer as long as you don't try to run them both at once.

Thanks for the info. I have downloaded the newest version and found the latency "controls" in the preferences. With a bit of experimentation, I should be good to go.
Another dumb question.
Hi i have tried to locate temporary files that were not saved but not deleted according to the programme i have followed troubleshooting but cannot see anything in preferences "directory" as instructed could anybody tell me why this is thanks?
