Can't Get Audacity to record in Stereo (Vista)
I cannot figure this one out.
I have Windows Vista running on a laptop.
I have an ION record player (first model) that I connect to the laptop through a USB cable.
I have selected Stereo in preferences in Audacity 1.2.6.
I cannot get Audacity to record both the left and right channels separately (had no problem with this on XP).
Any suggestions? Any other information you might need first?

Re: Can't Get Audacity to record in Stereo (Vista)
First off I would recommend using Audacity 1.3.7 - there are many issues on Vista with the old 1.2.6 version that simply disappear by upgrading to the most recent 1.3 version.
Are you able to test it again on XP to ensure that the turntable has not developed a fault?

Re: Can't Get Audacity to record in Stereo (Vista)
I have the same problem with the same setup. I have an ION USB turntable which worked fine with audacity 1.2.3 and Windows XP. I moved this setup now to a
laptop with Windows Vista (64 Bit) and audacity 1.2.6 and although I have the same settings for audio input and recording I can't record stereo. Both tracks are
identical. I believe it is the left channel which gets recorded twice. I migrated to 1.3.7 and can not even get this to record. I get the error message 'Error while opening sound device. Please check the input device settings and the sampling rate. I checked the setup and its identical to my 1.2.6 setup and the 1.2.3 setup with XP.
I also moved the turntable back to the XP setup and it works. This is not a turntable issue.
It would be great if someone could help.

Re: Can't Get Audacity to record in Stereo (Vista)
Install Audacity 1.3.7 on your XP machine (you can have both Audacity 1.2.6 and 1.3 installed on the same machine). This may help determine whether it is a 1.3.7 issue or a Vista issue and help us to look in the right place for a solution.uwewrede wrote:I also moved the turntable back to the XP setup and it works.
(Note that you can not run Audacity 1.2.6 and 1.3.7 simultaneously. Also, Audacity 1.3 can open 1.2 projects, but 1.2 can not open 1.3 projects)

Re: Can't Get Audacity to record in Stereo (Vista)
Thanks for all the input. I had previously tried some of these suggestions, unfortunately with no success, but will try the other ones. If I cannot get it to work this week, I'll post again to see if there might be some new info out there.
Re: Can't Get Audacity to record in Stereo (Vista)
I am a total newbie to home recording and ran into this same problem. I hope this fix works for me. I am running a PreSonus Firebox through Windows Vista (64) and could only record in mono on the left channel. I do hope this works because thus far (and I have not spent a ton of time with it) Audacity is really easy to use which is a big plus for someone like me who is computer illiterate.
Re: Can't Get Audacity to record in Stereo (Vista)
Thanks guys. I am finally recording right now and it looks as if both channels are recording! I used the find that Uwe pointed out at http://www.jakeludington.com/ask_jake/2 ... vista.html and all looks good so far. Previously I set something to 2 channels and 44100, but cannot remember what it was but that one did not work. Uwe's find worked for me.
Thanks so much for your help.
