I am new to Audacity, so this may be a very basic question
Whenever I play back a file, it always starts from the beginning and plays the whole recording froms start to finish. How do I ...
(a)Fast-forward specific sections
(b) Jump around during playback, and start playing from, say, 20 mins into the recording.

Audacity will not Scan forward like holding the [>>] button on your VCR or DVD player. But you can start playing anywhere you want by clicking inside the blue waves -- the timeline.
The spacebar will stop and start the playback. You don't have to click on the Play and Stop buttons.

I would kill to be able to type +2005 [enter] and have Audacity jump forward 20 minutes and 05 seconds.

Thank you, it was helpful to know how to start at a given point in the file.

Enter it in the "Selection Start" box on the Selection Toolbar, then press the Spacebar to play.
