Using Audacity with a Tascam US-144 on Vista
Can anyone shed some light on why I can't get a useable signal using this setup? I suspect that it's an ASIO issue??? I am getting a signal into Audacity but it's garbled and the timing isn't right. Drivers are all updated and the Tascam works fine with Cubase, but I need my Audacity!! Any help appreciated.

No answers, but I do share your pain. I'm getting the same thing; just bought a us-144 and after downloading Vista 64 drivers it finally records audio, but like you said it sounds bad. It sounds just as bad on Cubase; how did you get it to work with that? If it's an ASIO issue, what would you need to do to fix it?

Can you be more specific, or perhaps upload a short (just a couple of seconds) of your recording to the internet and post a link.ponzer wrote:it sounds bad.
More information about your set-up is also important - you are recording what? You are using what microphone?

Re: Using Audacity with a Tascam US-144 on Vista
I'm using a Gateway laptop m-6866 with Windows Vista 64 bit; Audacity 1.2.6 with the Tascam US-144. I'm at work right now so I'll record a samlpe later. When I record something, it looks fine (like its supposed to in audacity) but when I go to play it, the sound is very distorted and you cannot make out the words/notes. I will post more info, thanks for the help.

Re: Using Audacity with a Tascam US-144 on Vista
Did this topic die? I, too, have a Vista 64-bit with a Tascam US-144 and I am having the same issues. This might be a Tascam issue, I don't know, but after much fiddling, I finally can record the sound I'm putting into the mic. BUT, the recorded audio in Audacity is almost in slow-motion. It used to be garbled before I made I was sampling at 44Hz and 16-bit, but still the audio is unusable (it's as if it's slow-motion). Any help or any other threads on this forum that talk about this?
By the way, the TASCAM software Cubase is nowhere NEAR as user-friendly as Audacity, hence my reason for trying the Audacity forums first!

Only if you want it to. The Audacity elves live 'round the world and it could take up to 12 hours to get to you. Longer if you need a specific elf.

Re: Using Audacity with a Tascam US-144 on Vista
If the machine uses ASIO drivers, then that's a problem. Steinberg keeps wanting to be paid money for ASIO, so it's unsupported in Audacity.
If you can find plain Windows drivers, that would work.

Yes, I can verify that it's not a Tascam issue, per se - the Windows program "Sound Recorder" records just fine using the Tascam interface device. But I get the same problem still in Audacity. I will try your solution and thanks for replying!!!

Re: Using Audacity with a Tascam US-144 on Vista
I actually just read a review of the TASCAM US-144 on my internet searches, and it read that it is NOT compatible with Vista 64-bit, which is what I have. I put in an email to TASCAM/TEAC, although apparently they're pretty slow to respond. Note that my Blue Mic Snowball works just fine with Audacity, but I am supremely disappointed that all my troubles might just be incompatibility, which makes my TASCAM device basically junk. Ugh. Thanks for the quick responses on here, though, group! I am a fan of Audacity!!
