Recording speed changes

Post by dannyyoung » Thu Oct 04, 2007 5:11 pm

Hello again all

Question number 2 from me - and I do search before I post so I hope this hasn't been covered already.

I tried to record a drum loop from vinyl earlier today, just a 16-bar loop that I wanted to chop and change using Reason & Recycle. All seemed to go fine until I played back the recording, and it seemed to be at 1/2 the speed it should have been. I experienced this yesterday when recording a cassette tape through my mixer, but this didn't happen when I recorded the same cassette tape through a walkman.

If I reboot the machine, everything seems fine - can anyone shed any light on why this is happening?

The most likely culprit is that something has the wrong sample rate set. I can't say anything else because I don't know anything about your mixer or your turntable (are they analog or digital? Do either of them use USB to connect to your PC?).

No, the setup is analogue, I have two technics 1200 turntables connected to a numark mixer which then plugs into my amplifier, I am using the record output from my mixer into the line in on my echo indigo sound card.

This problem has manifested itself further however - now when I play back any audio, i.e. a track through itunes, videos from youtube, my songs using reason etc. the audio (and video) runs extremely fast, maybe 2 or 3 times the speed it should. A reboot solves the problem, but I have no idea why it arises in the first place?

Can we assume you're on a PC? Would that be a good start?

You just sailed through two completely different ideas without stopping for breath. iTunes and YouTube play back at funny speeds, or iTunes Performances and YouTube Performances as captured and played by Audacity sound funny?
