USB Headphones -- No Sound

Post by brucehartford » Wed Feb 25, 2009 7:46 pm

I'm using Audacity 1.2.6 on a Windows XP system. When I try to listen to an Audacity AUP file, no sound comes through my USB headset earphones. Sound *does* come through my system speakers when I turn them on. Sound *does* come through the headset with other programs such as Windows Media Play and ITunes. I've tried both GigaWare and Logitech headsets with no joy. My system Speaker Volume is set at a reasonable level, and speakers are *not* muted.

Any suggestions or thoughts?

Thanks.

USB headphones are a completely separate audio device to the computer sound card. You probably have Audacity set to use the computer sound card as the play back device (hence the speakers work). To get sound from the USB headphones, you need to set Audacity to use the USB headphones as the playback device instead of the sound card.

Edit menu > Preferences > Audio I/O tab > Playback device.
