Sourcetrunk Podcast : a head start

Post by sourcetrunk » Thu Jan 29, 2009 7:48 pm

Dear Audacity users,

I'm the host of a podcast about Open Source software ( http://www.sourcetrunk.com ) and I'm planning to do a little episode on Audacity. I've been using Audacity since the beginning of the podcast so it's only fair to spend some time on this marvellous piece of software ;)

While I know the software pretty well (but I'm not an audiophile) I really would hate to miss out on stuff that really should be mentioned in this episode, if you have 3 minutes, could some of you answer these 3 questions for me ?

1.) what do you use Audacity for ?

2.) where does Audacity really shine for you ?

3.) have you been using other audio software ?

this would help me enormously !
thanks and kind regards,

<<<1.) what do you use Audacity for ?>>>

Live recordings.
General Editing; cutting and trimming sound clips.
Reconstructing problems so I can answer questions on the forum.

<<<2.) where does Audacity really shine for you ?>>>

Mostly in Los Angeles.

It's the only sound editing software I have for the Mac. If I did more work, I'd probably buy additional software, but at the current workload, this is it. It's very handy that the same software package will work on Mac, Windows, and Linux. I use all three.

<<<3.) have you been using other audio software ?>>>

I have and use licenses for Cool Edit 2000 and Adobe Audition but they're Windows PC only. I also have licenses for Mac QuickTime Pro which allows me to perform simple capture, playback and editing.

To transcribe LPs tapes and minidiscs, record FM off-air (often with time-shift recording) and record streaming audio. Make WAV files to burn CDs and to load into iTunes/iPod as AAC. Occasional mic work for spoken word recordings

Good, fairly straightforward GUI - does the job well. The Repair effect in 1.3 - and the fact that in 1.3 crash recovery seems to work well.

ClickRepair - for click and pop removal
iTunes - target output / jukebox player / transfer to iPod
