I just got a Mackie Onyx Satellite Recording device.
I am using Audacity to record.
When I first tried recording on Audacity, it recorded from my macbooks internal microphone. So it recorded off the speaker blasting next to it. Than I tried changing the settings and it would not let me due to the sample rate settings (either on Audacity or for the onyx i don't know which one). I shut down audacity, and tried recording again and I got this error:
KERN_PROTECTION_FAILURE

All I want to do is record my mix through the onyx satellite onto audacity. I am running version 1.25
What the hell is going on. I watched tutorials on youtube, I looked at the audacity forums, but a new problem keeps showing up? I tried uninstalling (I dragged audacity from the applications folder into the recycle bin, I think that deletes it), And than I tried reinstalling it. Same problem?

Oh, good. We're in my world again. Working with Windows machines makes me itch.

Go into Apple, System Preferences, Sound and make sure your Sound Device is selected as an input. Play the device. The panel bouncing balls should respond to the sound. Just to cover it, select the internal microphone and talk a little. See the sound meter?

Do you have QuickTime Pro? Highly recommended. Open QuickTime Pro and Select File, New Audio Recording. If you play something on your sound device, do you get the bouncing lights in QuickTime?

If not, then the Device didn't install itself properly. If you switch to the build-in microphone, then it all starts working in Audacity *and* Quicktime, right? Audacity is standing on Quicktime Services, if QuickTime can't see it, Audacity won't be able to see it, either.

Well i don't know whats going on entirely but now audacity crashes when it wants.
I am using a firewire audio interface device for recording dj mixes, not using my internal mic to record things on quicktime

My default input is the satellite and my record settings (under audio midi set up) are 96000 Hz format, 2 ch- 24 bit ( I thought 96/24 was the best)
The output is 96000 Hz output 6ch 24 bit.
In Audacity, my settings are default sample rate: 96000hz
default sample format - 24bit

I am getting a chipmunk recording and it is only recording to the left channel. No Audio is coming out of the right side of my headphones.
However, when using mackie tracktion 2, it is recording on both channels, so I am guessing something is wrong with Audacity.

No, but that's the diagnostic mode. Audacity is standing on QuickTime services. If QuickTime can't see the satellite, then Audacity will be helpless. If all programs can see the built-in microphone but only some programs can see the satellite, then the satellite drivers and software may need some work.

You got something serious wrong there. Audacity doesn't just throw up its little hands and halt. It was forced to. How full are your hard drives? How many different things do you have running at once?

Are you trying to open more than one Audacity? It hates that.
