1.3.6 Menu Structure

Post by Loaded4th » Mon Nov 17, 2008 7:19 am

I hope this is the proper forum, but I'd like to mention that the new Menu item Effect that now uses multiple sub menu's is rather frustrating. I'm continually using Amplify, Leveller, Fade In & Out and to a lesser extent many others. Now I have to click several times to invoke these functions. I have to say that I resist the later offerings from Microsoft because they are going this way. Are there plans for a customizable toolbar to circumvent this inefficient usage?

I agree that it is a little frustrating at first, but it does not take long to become familiar with where the effects are located. You should not need to "click" multiple times, as once you have clicked on the effects menu, each of the sub folders should open just by pointing at them.

If you use a lot of plug-in effects, the category view for effects is fantastically effective. Trying to find a specific effect in a list of 200 or more was a real pain.

If you are using many of the effects 100's of times in the space of a few hours it's still remains frustrating. I've reloaded 1.3.4

Thanks for the tip about the plug-ins, I'll give them a try.

You know the short-cut "Ctrl+R" (Repeat last effect).

Actually it's not so much a question of using the same value for amplification, when working on excessive peaks, because when you switch to another effect, you have to adjust the amplification level when you return to it. BTW, it's Alt-R on my install

I still don't understand the logic behind collapsing the menu items. If the number of items are too many, why not just collapse the more esoteric items like Cross Fade, everb, Filter, etc...

Loadedtth,

would you like me to move this thread to the "Adding Features to Audacity" subsection of the forum?

That way it will get migrated in a short while to the Wiki Feature Requests section, where it will definitely come to the attention of the Audacity developers.

IIRC the developers changed it to be this way, relatively recently, because folks complained about difficulties navigating the long list of effects ...

Sorry WC;

I've been unable to visit for a while, and if it's not too late, please move this thread where it may receive attention.

Thanks in advance...

Actually no need to move it now - a recent posting by one of the Developers, Gale Andrews, explained in a similar thread what the developers are working on in this respect.

See http://audacityteam.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=16&t=9051

So hopefully in 1.4 both options should be available.
