changing the bit rate

Post by tommysantunes » Thu Sep 20, 2007 8:40 pm

I found the bit rate in preferences and it is locked at 128. I can't move it with the up down arrow.

I need to change the rate to a lower position. I'm trying to upload onto myspace and can't do it at the 128 rate....

Please Help.

128 is just about the lower limit for good quality music, are you sure you want to go lower?

Also, how long is the song? I've uploaded 5 minutes worth of 256 kbps files before, that would mean your song is at least 10 minutes long.

But the big problem is that you can't change it at all. The first thing you need to make sure is that you have the lame_enc.dll file installed. Audacity cannot be distributed with the file due to licensing restrictions, but thankfully it's a free download anyway:
http://audacityteam.org/help/faq?s=inst ... m=lame-mp3

Once that's downloaded and unzipped, click the Find Library button in that same menu to point Audacity to the file.

Sorry if you've already done that.

Once you're sure that's installed, it should be a simple matter of changing the bit rate like any other drop-down menu. I'm not sure what "up/down" arrow you're talking about, my arrow only points down.

If that hasn't helped, let us know.
