real-time playback

Audacity is by far the most advanced music editing software I've ever loaded. Therein lies the problem. I've imported an MPEG4 audio file from my music. I would love to be able to play the soundtrack in real time so that I know where I want to cut. Audacity plays the file back at such a high ratio, I'd have to be a computer to tell it was anything more than a two second chipmunk soundbyte. lol The track is actually 4min, 31sec long. Any help is greatly appreciated!

Actually it doesn't. Audacity doesn't support AAC (aka mp4 or m4a) files. You'll have to convert them to one of the formats listed here:
