HELP! Recording Cassette Tapes

I bought an Iconnex portable USB sound card because the advertising for it said it was a device from which you could turn your cassettes into digital format to put on your computer or ipod. It came w/ an audacity software disk and absolutely no instructions. I think this piece of technology, after looking at the audacity program is WAY over my head and all I want to do is figure out how to plug the device in to where I can get it to record music on the cassette and put it on my pc. There is no instruction manual telling me how to do this. The only information on where to go for assistance was to a website called "surgeforce.net" but it was just as technical as the software looked and does not appear to be on point but rather on sound mixing. Where do I learn how to work this thing for what I want to do??????? ANyone? Thanks.

The tutorials in the Audacity wiki is probably a good starting point.

For Windows, I would suggest that you use either Audacity 1.2.6 or 1.3.5 as these are the current versions. They can be downloaded from the main Audacity web site:

Blondie, I just downloaded Audacity 1.2.6 today and feel just like you did. I have no idea what to do next. If you still want to know where to plug in devices, though, this Web site might help:

This site is where I first learned about Audacity. It has further instructions, but as you said, they are WAY over my head! Did you ever find any simple instructions?

Thank you, Steve. I also found the link on anothe post after I finally noticed the Search box and typed in "Instruction Manual." Today is my first day using the forum, so I still don't know what I'm doing!

No problem

You will find a lot of help and documentation in the Audacity wiki - Audacity is one of the best documented open source applications around - but sometimes you need to hunt around a bit to find the bits that you need. The Audacity wiki has a search box which can be useful.
If you get completely stuck, try browsing/searching this forum and if you still can't find what you need, post a question. Try and post in the most appropriate place for the Audacity version and operating system that you are using. Post the question just once (no double posting). You are likely to receive a reply with a day or two (if not sooner).
