MP3 export message

Ok, I'm really new at using Audacity and after a barrage of lame_enc.dll errors and a few hours of technical support, I'm nearly bald at this point! I've gotten rid of most of the errors now. The latest of hurdles comes when I am trying to export as a MP3. I click export as MP3, save and I get "unable to open target file for writing" message. Anyone have any suggestions what this could be? These are sound clips I'm downloading onto CD-R music recordable discs. It's a new disc, full, plenty of space... I'd really appreciate the help! I need to be able to record sound on my hand-held digital recorders, upload it to my computer, clarify it, separate it and download pieces of it and give a copy of pieces of it to customers as needed. Sounds simple enough but judging by the bald spots, it's more complicated than I bargained for...

Thanks to anyone willing to help us out!!!

<<<a few hours of technical support>>>

You must be on a PC, right?

<<<I've gotten rid of most of the errors now.>>>

I'm more than passably interested in what those errors were. Most people's machines don't take hours of technical support. You may have an unstable machine causing other problems.

<<<trying to export as a MP3. >>>

You can export as a Windows WAV file right now, right? And it works OK after you do that? I'm after this answer for a very specific reason.

Did you have a lot of trouble downloading and decompressing the LAME libraries? I don't remember where they go on a PC. Where did it want you to put them? What did the instructions say?

Hi, rpand4.. I hope you aren't trying to save the file directly onto the CD. Are you trying to do that? Also, I agree with Koz, audacity doesn't install too many things that affect your system, so I don't know how it can cause your OS to go down.

mudeth is right, you cannot save directly to a CD. Save the files to your hard disc and burn them all later if you need to.

Ooh hoo! I have found a round-about way of getting it to burn! The ONLY way I can get it to burn is through my computer, copy the files to a disc feature. It will not export as WAV or MP3. ????
