Has this forum become toxic to MSIE 7 ?

Post by hellosailor » Fri Sep 19, 2008 8:41 pm

I ask because three times in the past two days, I've posted a reply to a forum message, using Vista32-Ultimate and MSIE7 fully patched, and after I hit "post" MSIE starts opening new tabs (browser pages) like mad. Can't kill 'em fast enough to stop it, its worse than whack-a-mole and it is only happening on this forum.

Am i just lucky? Or...is there a problem here? ANy recent changes in the forum software?

As far as I know there have been no recent changes to the forum software. Also the majority of forum users are Windows users, but you are the only one to raise this issue, so it's most likely that the problem is your end. Does anything load into all of those new windows? Have you done a full "malware" scan recently to check for viruses / adware / spyware etc?

Thanks for the reality check, Steve.

In the interim I've been debugging, and found a file called UTSCSI.EXE which starts a service called CLCV0, apparently installed by a new Jetflash secured thumb drive two days ago. Coincidentally, when things started going into the bog.

Why it should cause problems with one particular web site--lord only knows, but there it is. It also bogs down Windows Mail, makes directory windows open terriby slowly, and can push restarts over 15 minutes!

Malware--not much of a problem, I've been slapping that down for 25 years now. Firewalled, scanned, cautious, and I keep an eye on all the little blinking lights.<G> As the song says, "Like lookin in the mirror, and seein a po-lice car".

It's always some damned clever vendor with some innocuous nugget--that just doesn't work!
