Help,

I am just a beginner and have been successful in recording from my cassette player to my computer. I need to convert these files so that I can record them to CD and play them on most any CD player. I exported my file to a .wav file and can play on my computer. But....what do I need to export my files to so they are can be played on most CD players, to include my car?

Thank you for your help!

The Windows WAV file is a good choice because it's easily readable on Mac and Windows.

You need a music CD burning program. Such a program should have come with the CD burner or, if a burner was included in your computer, then there should be a burning program in there somewhere.

Nero Lite, Nero, Adaptec Easy CD Creator, I think Cleaner will do that.

You're correct. If you just make a CD cold, you will get a data CD which looks like a tiny, flat hard drive. The WAV file will stay a data file and won't play in your car. A Music CD Burning Program will format the music in such a way that your car can find it.

Windows or Mac?

Koz,

Thank you so much for your reply to my message. To answer your question, Windows or Mac, I am using Windows. I was able to create my CD using Windows Media Player, but as I said, only playable on my computer because I saved it in a .wav file. I was hoping that one of the file extensions for export in audacity would work. I have ordered Roxio and hope that will solve my problem. If you have any other recommendation, I'm all ears!

The critical thing is to ensure that you create a "Musi CD" and not a "Data CD" with the CD burner. Your PC will be able to read and play a data CD with WAVs on it but most cars and most CD decks will not.
