Audacity Forum

Hello!
I am new to everything audacity, and so this may be an obvious and/or stupid issue/question -
How do you access the effects menu? It's greyed out, and I can't figure out how to use it.

Unlike almost every other program I've ever used, Audacity defaults to selecting nothing. Edit, Select, All or select some portion of your performance and the tools should come back.
