Created problem recording from turntable

Post by sioux » Mon Dec 27, 2010 6:13 pm

I just purchased a Pico Vinylwriter turntable and had downloaded to Audacity a number of tracks off old albums. However, in the process of cleaning up the noise, I must have changed something because now when I play a record I get no volume through my computer speakers and there's no data being downloaded to Audacity. I can lightly hear the soundtrack from the turntable. There's something being transmitted because the Audacity track where I had previously seem the volume lights and the audio track signal flashes but there's a little symbol like a stop sign.
Any ideas what I did and how to correct it? Turntable is hooked to computer via USB and I'm using windows.
Thanks

1) Do yourself a big favour and upgrade to Audacity 1.3.12 http://audacityteam.org/download/beta_windows
2) In Audacity 1.3.12, go to "Edit menu > Preferences > Devices" - The "Recording" device needs to be set to the USB option and the "Playback" device needs to be set to your computer sound card.
