I happened to have to hand a slighly shorter Audacity project I am working on - so ...

Single stereo pair, no multiple tracks
Track length 59 mins 20 secs

Audacity settings 44.1kHz 32-bit floating
Export settings: MP3 128 CBR

Elapsed time for export: 11 mins ten secs

Adacity Project disk occupancy: 11.2GB
MP3 disk occupancy: 54.4MB

My PC Dell Dimension 2400 is not blisteringly fast - but is a good, well set up PC with plenty of RAM and spare disk - no other applications (apart from McAfee virus checker) running on the PC at the same time, though PC connected to my LAN and t'interweb.
O/S is Windows XP-HE-SP3

As mentioned before, the fastest that I've come across is the Xing encoder. It used to be available as a stand alone encoder, and if you hunt around the internet you may still find an old copy. I believe that it is now used in RealPlayer (never liked RealPlayer personally).
