Hi i was wondering, what are the steps to get only the center pan.
I know how to remove center pan by inverting one of the tracks and makeing them mono. Of course this doesn't help in getting the center pan. Obviosuly i can no use the center removed pan and invert it again the original then you will just loose one channel.
Though i have heard of people doing it manually someone mentioned phase shifting 180 which is invert and then they mentioned bounce the track to get isolated or something weird. I have no idea what they are on about, and i cant remember where i saw it.
Anyway there must be a way to do it without buying a vst plugin which may not work with audacity. if not with normal options then with nyqist.
Any help would be appreciated

Re: center pan isolation
No shortage of people who want the singer without the orchestra.
<<<then they mentioned bounce the track to get isolated or something weird. I have no idea what they are on about, and i cant remember where i saw it.>>>
But you're reasonably sure it was right next to the woman who put her poodle in the microwave to dry him off.
Every time I try to research this I get the list of references. "I can't do it, but I know a guy on the Framis Forum who heard about it ...."
I killed a number of trees and several pencils by doodling on legal pads about the best way to do this. "... then invert the left track, multiply it by the mono mix and...."
It usually takes more effort for a much worse result than to just hire the singer to come over and sing. I realize you can only do this in LA, but still.

thanx kozikowski for your more than excellent attitude ><.
Anyway i had a look around and think i got an idea of the different ways to get this. Basically the most common method to get the middle track is to split the frequencies apart than compare the left track against the right and keep only frequencies that are in both left and right track. This sounds complicated and i don't think there is anyway to achieve a similar effect in audacity without the use of a plug in like Voice Trap which is cheap and works in audacity. The other ways of removing or isolating instruments is removing frequencies and in combination with this comparing to left and right. ie if sound is positioned slightly left of middle the volume of the frequency should be able to be compared to only remove the sound in that position and leave a similar sound positioned else where alone. This is how i think "extra boy" plug in works. so when listening to a piece think about how things are positioned to other instruments and what frequency things are compared to other instruments.
kozikowski your endless wisdom is much appreciated.
If you have nothing constructive to say do not say it at all.

And it only works if you can manipulate both. The older tools couldn't do that so this is me writing that down.
Glad to have you on the forum. Now don't leave.
