Capture Audio from DVD or online?

Post by Jackson5280 » Thu Mar 04, 2010 10:16 pm

Sorry if this is in the wrong place but I'm hoping it isn't. I've search Google and been a fan of Audacity when cropping my audio for several years, but figured I should come to these boards if I wanted very clear, helpful answers.

If there is audio on a DVD that I want to capture to my computer, or if I'm watching a short video online and want to capture the audio, how can i do this without spending money on costly equipment or software? Thank you!

reading the mail here ..
others have asked similar things

i think the key is to select stereo mix
then you can record what you are playing
(if everything else is set right)

look for the wiki and docs and search for stereo mix
and see if you dont get some info that will work for you

The audio track from DVDs can be "ripped" much like ripping a CD (but more complicated). You can find information about doing that from http://www.doom9.org/ (they are the experts). "Ripping" the audio from the DVD is the highest quality way of doing this. An alternative method is to play the DVD in your media player and record "Stereo Mix" (if supported on your computer) as described here: http://wiki.audacityteam.org/wiki/Mixer ... trol_Panel
This second method is what you would use to record the audio from an on-line video.
