It is exceedingly easy to erase hours of recording while trying to name your tracks(as the past four hours of recording, soon to be re-recorded, demonstrated)...it seems it would be sage to address this with some type of warning pop up, or changing the way tracks are named.

I'm not sure what you mean. Do you mean naming the tracks within the main Audacity window, or do you mean naming exported audio files, or do you mean renaming Audacity Projects, or something else?
