Hi all
I am using Audacity to tune a metal drum that I am working on. I use the FFT window to get an accurate "view" of the note freq and harmonics.
What however is really bugging me is the inability to "zoom" in on a specific band of freq.
I sample high, and if I physically drag the FFT window wider than the monitor and shift if sideways I can see the resolution is there. But I can only do this so far.
Rather than have it default to 0-20khz is there a way of specifying a freq band. like 300-500Hz.
I have included my findings and possibly a better explanation here.
I have also tried with similar constraints using wavesurfer.

Re: Fourier Transfrom window
How accurate are you trying to get? I think the FFT is only as accurate as 1 Hz, so if you want better than that then you're out of luck. Thankfully that's probably plenty accurate.
If you hover the mouse over the FFT window, Audacity will lock onto each peak and tell you exactly what frequency and the volume level. I think that's as good as Audacity can do, but I'm not certain. You can also export the FFT to a text file and look through that to find the highest value (least negative, actually).
