Not sure what's going on with my recordings
Not sure what's going on with my recordings
I can record fine but when I try to save my recordings won't save. I don't know what I'm doing wrong. I managed to save a file once and since then I've had to deleat everything and try again. So far no luck. I really need help on this one. I know it says to save in audacity but I can't seem to manage it.

Re: Not sure what's going on with my recordings
Let's assume you're making the same mistake everybody else makes. "Save" in Audacity will not give you a stand-alone sound file that you can email to your mom. It's more of an internal production tool.
You probably want Export As WAV... or Export As MP3...
Both of those will give you an actual digital file with music in it. If you decide to use MP3, that's a little more work unless you already added the lame compression library.
Did I hit it?

"Save" = save Audacity project - you cannot play this, it is the Audacity project file + a folder of data for Audacity.
Do not edit, move or delete any of these files if you wish to continue working on the project.
The Audacity project does not play in Media Player, and cannot be directly burned onto an audio CD.
"Export" = write the audio to disk as a wav, mp3, or other audio format.
If you want a file that you can play in Media Player, WinAmp, or write to CD, you need to "Export" the audio.
[EDIT] Ha! beat me to the post - Oh well, two answers for the price of one
