Cannot play .wav on Real Player.
Cannot play .wav on Real Player.
I can export a recording in .wav to My Music but I can only play it back on Audacity. It will not play on Real Player or Windows Media Player or any other player. There is some kinda issue about codecs - IEEE Float (3) codec. I'm not all that up to date on the latest technology and I need things simplified.
Thank you,
John B.

Re: Cannot play .wav on Real Player.
Assuming you did actually Export A WAV, the solution might be more straightforward. Audacity default is 32-bit Floating, not the much more common 16-bit and not everybody supports 32.
Try converting the show to 16-bit and re-export. I would expect zero sound damage by doing that.
This is from another portion of the forum...
To change the bit depth of a track: Click on the track name and select the required bit depth on the "Set Sample Format" sub-menu.
To Change the bit depth when Exporting in an uncompressed format: Select the required bit depth in the Export dialogue (Audacity 1.3.x)

Re: Cannot play .wav on Real Player.
I tried 16 bit but no success. Also tried to Edit/Select all-File/Export Selection As Wav. And I switched Stereo Mix to WAVE. I have a screen shot of the Real Player dialog.
Thanks for the help,
John B.
***Edit***: One thing I forgot to mention and it might make a difference. I had downloaded in MP3 format and then tried to export to .wav. I can't believe that more can be gotten from less. I downloaded from YouTube which I think is MP3.

It's not. YouTube uses Flash and h.264 now. They haven't used MP3 in a while. Audacity, especially in the 1.2 version doesn't support that.

Pull down piano2.wav or either of the two MP3s and try that.
You can use Super or Switch to convert the work to WAV which should open and edit in Audacity just fine.

Re: Cannot play .wav on Real Player.
I downloaded piano2.wav to My Music. I opened it in Audacity and exported it as a wav file to My Music. Then I tried to open it in Windows media after exporting and I get the codec dialog box. I exported as a MP3 and it opened in Windows Media ok. I don't know what Super and Switch are.
Thanks,
John B.

The file by itself opens up in Windows Media, right? Without going through Audacity? One step at a time.
Launch Audacity fresh and open up piano2.wav. Read the numbers and values in the panel on the left of the blue waves. Piano2, Stereo, 48000, 16-bit?
Super and Switch are file conversion programs you can download from the internet. You can use them to convert odd or advanced sound files from the internet to WAV so that Audacity can open and edit them. Only one of them is free and I can never remember which one.

Re: Cannot play .wav on Real Player.
I downloaded Super, Switch, AVS Video Converter, Prismsetup.exe. I changed piano2.wav with Switch and it will now play with Windows Media Player. The same with other .wav files. I used Switch to change the .wav file to Output in .wav format. Quick and easy. It asked to replace one for the other and I clicked ok.
Your info opened doors to a lot of potential software. Once I had tried was to convert .wav and mp3 files to play on a dvd instead of a cd. That was a couple of months ago and I forgot What exactly I did. I'll go back and review.
Thanks a lot for your help,
John B.
