<<<I know what "compiling" is>>>

So do I. I'm joshing. I used a compiler once back in the Eisenhower administration. You used to be able to get debug to do that right?

The venerable developers are extremely busy preparing for the next stable release of Audacity. Although I'm old and gray, I'm still the new kid on the block when it comes to Audacity programming! Bill's written details and the pictures from Koz (though he never says what OS he is testing, I'm assuming Mac) give me a fair idea of the current behavior on Mac; the information from stevethefiddle and other information I have garnered from outside the forum give me some idea of what is happening currently on Linux (although this is not an exhaustive Linux test -- I have heard rumors that different flavors of Linux might behave differently).

I created a very tiny wxWidgets application to test this behavior. Having the results from one Linux and one Mac compile gives me additional information. I have come to believe that there are significant differences between the three OSs. For Audacity, I have come up with a solution (a workaround) which results in Linux and Windows performing in a similar manner and to design specification.

I am going to move this question to the wxWidgets forum. I want to thank everyone who replied for their consideration and help!
