cannot hear converted wav (or mp3)

Post by sjp1966 » Sun Nov 04, 2007 11:10 am

I am using version 1.26 on XP (SP2) – I am recording an album, I have managed to set it up so I can hear the track when recording, I have even chopped the album up into its respective tracks and when I click into the project and press play I can hear the music.

I then multiple export the album and it places the converted wav files on my desktop, but when I play these wave files no music can be heard. I also converted the wav files to mp3 and I still cannot hear anything, I am sure it is something relatively simple I am not doing, can someone help please?

I found out what this was. Someone or soemthing had altered the default playback device in Sounds and Audio devices to USB Audio Codec. I changed it back to the soundcard and all was ok.

It is strange though because within the application itself it did state playback device as the soundcard.

The coordination between the Audacity sound control banner and the real world sometimes isn't the best. That's also why sometimes a setting will not "take" until you restart the program.

Plugging in the USB device has probably done that - they have a tendency to take over the audio.

Good that you found how to fix it.

Yes it can catch you un-awares, I figured I would put up how I solved it in case anyone else is having the same issue.
