Which version of Audacity? Which Platform?

In Windoze CTRL+P k/b shortcut gets you straight to Preferences (In MACspeak I assume that's Apple+P )

I didn't make myself clear. Sorry. I am running Windows XP. I do not know which version of Audacity I am running and have no idea how to find out. Right clicking on the short cut, and chosing properties, says in was created 27th Nov 2008.
I have a Preference box under File which seems to allow me to change Mouse and Keyboard settings.
I am trying to add an extra audio track to an existing track, and looking at the web etc the instructions say I have to chose Edit - Preferences - multi track etc. I don't have Preferences under The Edit title.
Any help is appreciated. Thanks
Ed

Well I'm extremely puzzled - my 1.2 version has a full set of Preferences tabs.

I would suggest downloading the latest Beta 1.3.9 - you can get it from here: http://audacityteam.org/download/

Ignore the labelling that says "For advanced users only" and the "unstable" labelling in the forum - 1.3.9 is now pretty mature and stable - the developers are considering the next couple of updates as potential Release Candidates for v2.0.
