Audacity won't resume play after stop

I'm editing an audacity project and I stop the playback for a moment. Occassionally, when I hit play to resume, the play will not resume.
When this happens, the VU meters freeze at their level. Many functions freeze - I cannot save, for example, but I can move the cursor and open menus.
Sometimes, I wait a minute or two and things go back to normal. At this moment, I'm about 15 minutes in without action.

Any ideas?

Next time please post in the forum particular to your Audacity and computer so we won't have to ask you...Which version of Audacity -- exactly -- and which Computer do you have? Version numbers, operating system, revisions?
